10 Business Crime Prevention Tips

• Light the inside and outside of your business around entries and exits
• Get an appropriate security system and learn to use it properly
• Trim shrubs and keep windows and doors clear
• Stamp all keys issued to employees "do not duplicate" and protect them with utility patents. Replace with new locks and keys when employees leave their jobs.
• Train employees in good opening, closing, cash-handling and crime response procedures.
• Keep cash register in plain view from outside the business so law enforcement can monitor it.
• Keep only a small amount of cash in registers.
• Keep a fireproof drop safe so cash can not be removed once it is put in.
• Do not display valuable goods in store windows after hours.
• Train employees in proper credit card authorization procedures.
